Thanks in no small part to my job, I have had some time to research our potential group vacation. As some of you may know, this was already attempted last year with only a small amount of success. But we are a strong united force and I believe that with our powers combined, we can make this work!

I have several propositions for you all. I have crunched numbers via several travel sites and arrived at the following choices. Please note, all numbers were crunched using the same dates at the assumption of two people to a room for a three night stay, sometime after The Great Wedding Event for the Torrie affected subset of the Penny populace.

Choice 1: Most Expensive, Most Scandalous Fun Potential
Destination: Las Vegas, Nevada

Con: This trip would cost the most per person. For those who might suggest staying off the strip would be a way to save money, the amount of cash forked over for cabs to get to all the relevant strip fun would soon drain the savings. Plus the cheap places are really really gross and smell of desperation.

Pro: It’s fucking Vegas people.

Choice 2: The Small Easy
Destination: Atlantic City, New Jersey

Con: Some of us have probably been there/grew up there. A lot of the rooms are already sold out for spring in the decent hotels. Money saved on airfare would go towards rooms that were anywhere near anything interesting.

Pro: No flight involved as we can all reach it by car and it would allow for people to come and go as they please instead of being regulated by plane. Plus, I’m fairly sure any vacation where we were all together would be enormous amounts of fun.

Choice 3: The Odd Compromise
Destination: Uncville, CT/ Mohegan Sun

Con: Still not cheap, but reachable by car though a little more out of the way then Choice 2. Rooms look nicer then anywhere else, but it is limited to the casino and who wants to spend three days in one casino in the middle of Connecticut?

Pro: It’s a place to go that none of us have been before, I think. Pretty much a recipe for drunken debauchery and in our crowed that’s a big pro.

Choice 4: The Leap of Faith
Destination: Montreal, Canada
Con: Well, it’s Canada and we are back to being better off flying then driving. I mean, we could drive, but a total of twelve hours in a car for a three day vacation is a bit much, I think. Male subset may object here.

Pro: We can stay in a very quality hotel right in the middle of Montreal and roundtrip flight for a little under 500 a person. That’s not only the best deal, but the best value since we’ll be right in the smack of a nice city. Not to mention, everyone knows that Montreal is the graduate student’s Paris.

My Conclusions: I think our smartest choice is Montreal. I’ve been there before, many years ago and I remember it being a pretty nice place to be and having another language floating around does trick you into thinking Europe for a bit. Las Vegas is tempting, but by the time we’d all be prepared to go in spring, the prices will be on the rise. However, if anyone is getting the weekend jitters and wants to attempt a discount winter Vegas vacation with only staying a night or two, this would be the time to let me know. Deals starting at 69 dollars a night abound. But that would require taking time off not very in advance and I know most of us can’t manage that.

Let me know what you think!
